The Last Day of the Belgian Open
The final day of the 2006 Belgian Open was played in warm weather, with temperatures of 27°C and sunny beaches close by. The day decided the titles in all divisions and ended with a gala dinner.
Championship final
The main final brought together two friends who also played as a doubles team: Jürgen Orlowski from Germany, who had won the Enghien tournament earlier in 2006, and Mochi from Japan. The 17-point match was very tight and lasted more than four hours. Mochi won it with a gammon to take the title.
Other divisions
- Advanced: Paul Baeyens (Belgium) defeated Georgy Balkandjiisky (Bulgaria).
- Intermediate: Jeroen Romme (Netherlands) won over Vladimir Todorov Georgiev (Bulgaria).
- Amateur: Mr. Germonprez (Belgium) won and received a custom-made backgammon board.
- Side event: won by Alain Babillon (France).
- After Tournament Tournament: Peter Blachian (Germany) defeated Lars Trabolt (Denmark).
Gala dinner and next edition
Forty-five players attended the gala dinner, where the awards ceremony was held. The organisers also announced the dates of the 3rd Belgian Open: it was set for Oostende from 30 May to 3 June 2007. For the players who stayed on after the finals, a relaxed After Tournament Tournament closed the event.
